HEAL Podcast Clip

Dr. Eugene Manley Jr., PhD – cancer scientist, nonprofit founder, and CEO of the SCHEQ Foundation—was recently featured on Lily Patrascu’s HEAL Podcast in an episode titled “Treatmnts to HEAL Cancer”. This episode focused on modern cancer treatments, lung cancer breakthroughs, prevention, and the future of personalized care.

In the conversation, Dr. Manley reflected on more than two decades of progress in lung cancer research, including the rise of precision medicine and the development of multiple targeted therapy approaches. He also discussed the importance of early detection, how genetic mutations shape personalized treatment decisions, and why prevention strategies must address multiple factors together – including tobacco exposure, air quality, diet, physical activity, and other comorbidities.

A key theme of the episode was prevention through a whole-health lens. Dr. Manley explained that while alcohol is not the primary driver of lung cancer in the way smoking is, alcohol is a known cancer risk factor overall and can worsen systemic health. His message emphasized that meaningful cancer prevention requires coordinated lifestyle strategies rather than focusing on a single risk factor in isolation.

Dr. Manley also highlighted emerging opportunities for AI-enabled early detection, the real-world challenges patients face from diagnosis through treatment, and the need for science-based, plain-language education that supports informed decision-making.

As part of his appearance, Dr. Manley shared SCHEQ’s mission to advance health equity through research translation, public health advocacy, and education – while bringing together patients, clinicians, researchers, and industry through initiatives like the Lung Cancer Health Equity Summit.
